About the mathematics site

What do you find here?

  • Information about what you are expected to know when you enter our university.
  • Multiple choice tests:
    • A general test quite similar to the placement test Hungarian students are required to write at the beginning of the first semester.
    • An opportunity to practise specific topics. In this section you get feedback directly after you have solved a problem, so it's easy to assess your level of knowledge. Practising by specific topics is useful to have a clear idea about your strengths and weaknesses.

Before getting down to work, you should know that...

We have chosen problems according to what we consider most important for students starting their studies in engineering or economics at our university. Try to solve the problems of the general test without using a calculator or consulting a textbook (this is how the real-life placement tests work). When you practise to improve your knowledge in a specific area, we encourage you to use a textbook or the short summaries provided at this site. The test problems are chosen randomly from a pool of categorized problems, so you will face a new challenge each time you start a test.

General test

The general test includes 15 problems from all areas covered at the mathematics site. You receive four points for each correct answer, and a deduction of one point for each wrong answer. You also have the option to skip a problem, in that case you won't be deducted any points. You have 50 minutes to solve the test. You'll have feedback about your answers after finalizing the test by clicking the Submit button.

Practice by topics

You'll find a short summary about each topic containing all formulas and items of knowledge that you should learn to use as a matter of routine. You'll also find tests by topic, which you can use to improve your knowledge in that specific area. There is no time limit for these tests. When solving a test, you have two tries to find the correct answer for each problem. If you get it right on the first try you are rewarded four points, if you can do it on the second try you receive two points. After you either have given the correct answer or have two failed attempts, you are automatically redirected to the next problem.
